The HD2 follows on from the success formula of the HTC HD, with the touchscreen now at 4.3 inches diagonally (the screen's resolution is 800x480) making use of capacitive touchscreen technology which is a first for a Windows Mobile handset. The HD2 features Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional. The HD2 also features impressive features including a 5-megapixel camera with auto focus, Foxtel mobile TV and comes with a 16GB microSD included in the box.
The HTC HD2 is fast and responsive with no lag, which is due to the heart of the beast, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU that is teamed up with 512MB Ram.
The HD2 can be used as a wifi router for up to 5 computers meaning you can team your HD2 with a Telstra Mobile Broadband data pack you instantly have a fast reliable wifi internet connection which would be great for conferences, trade shows and such by using your HD2 as a wifi modem router at speeds up to 7.2 Mb/s.
The HD2 features HTC's TouchFLO 3D user interface which is a custom shell for Windows Mobile that is designed by HTC to add usability and some extra functionality to the Windows Mobile user experience. We found this user interface easy to use and very intuitive and liked the fact that we could view all emails, sms's and facebook status of our contacts via the contacts tab.
Being a Windows mobile device the HD2 has mobile versions of Office, Excel and PowerPoint and full syncing with Microsoft Outlook via ActiveSync. The HTC HD2 features access to Windows Marketplace App store so obtaining applications will be a cinch.
The HD2 comes with Bluetooth, FM Radio, 3.5 mm stereo audio connector, Digital compass, Built in GPS, video calling, and all the usual Next G free to browse network features and speed.
Its $829 price tag at launch is a great value proposition as the original HD was $1499 at its launch. We would consider the HD2 on Telstra's ultimate phone plans which for around $67 a month gets you a whole lotta phone in the HD2, 150 minutes talk time to mobiles and fixed lines in Australia, 75 sms messages, 150MB of data and an additional $35 worth of credit should you need it.
