3 Mobile ZTE MF627 USB Internet Key Setup

Share

The MF627 made, by ZTE, Internet Key can work on both 2G and 3G mobile networks. It is set to 3G only as a default setting so, out of the box, the MF627 work only when in 3's 3G coverage areas which cover most Australian capital cities' metropolitan areas. To improve signal strength and download speeds an external antenna can help, see our list of MF627 patch leads and antennas . For use outside of 3G coverage, changing the connection type setting to 3G Preferred or 2G/3G Roaming is required. This is performed via the connection manager under the 'settings' menu. Whilst roaming on the 2G network, your modem's LED display will be blue and internet speeds will be slower. A red LED indicates the modem is searching for network connection, a solid green indicates a 3G connection while flashing green indicates 3G downloading.

With your mobile broadband service you are able to store contacts as well as send and receive SMS messages via the connection manager.

Installing the drivers and connection managing software is done by plugging the internet key into a USB port once your PC and Windows has loaded fully. This will auto run the installation software, which takes only a few minutes. Like any other software install you follow a few screen prompts to install the software. Don't remove the modem from its USB port before the installation process has completed. After successful completion of the installation, a shortcut icon for the connection managing software will appear on your desktop.

Connecting up to the internet is as easy as double clicking the shortcut icon on your desktop to open the connection manager, then by clicking the 'connect' button. Disconnecting after your net session simply requires you to click the 'disconnect' button. Don't forget to safely remove the USB key before removing it from its USB port.

With 3 Mobile broadband you get a free email address in the format of username@three.com.au To set up your email you should use the settings below:

Email address: username@three.com.au
Incoming Mail Server: mail.three.com.au
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.three.com.au
Password: Your 4-digit pin

To use an email address other than the three.com.au, you will need to use the incoming server of your provider with the outgoing mail server being: smtp.three.com.au

To check the network settings and APN (Access Piont Name) you open the connection manager software then click on the 'settings' icon. Under the 'profile' tab select '3 Mobile Broadband' then click 'view'.

The setings should be as follows:
    Config Filename: 3 MobileBroadband
    Dial Number: *99#
    Username: [leave blank]
    Password: [leave blank]
    APN: "3netaccess"
