Acuhealth Pro 900

The Acuhealth Pro 900 was developed in Australia and combines modern technology with the ancient art of acupuncture. It enables people to treat themselves at home or in their work place and often with a degree of success beyond their wildest expectations.

Developed for acupuncture point stimulation self treatment, the Acuhealth Pro 900 has been accepted by the professional community as an instrument affording great relief to many people suffering pain or discomfort.

Using the controlled power from an ordinary 9 volt battery, the Acuhealth Pro 900's ingenious design actually locates the points to be stimulated and the audiovisual signal informs you to press the treatment button located on the hand held unit.

The Acuhealth Pro 900 is a small hand-held unit which produces minute electrical impulses that stimulate pre-determined and easy to find points on the body. These points are linked along neuro-paths called Meridians, which transmit the unit's electrical pulse direct to the affected area. The treatment is completely safe and painless and the unit is designed to be operated by anyone - even those with limited mobility.

Treating a specific problem is simple:
  1. Look up your condition in the easy to follow treatment and instruction book.
  2. Choose the appropriate point for stimulation, as suggested in the treatment book, according to the severity of pain, or the desired result.
  3. Switch on your Acuhealth Pro 900 unit and move it over the area suggested in the treatment book. An indicator light and a variable sound will tell you when you have found the specific treatment point.
  4. Having located the treatment point, simply hold the unit in position and press the treatment button.
  5. The average treatment time for most conditions is 30 - 60 seconds per point - a total of no more than 5 minutes - so you can use your unit at work, at home or even in front of the television

A BRIEF HISTORY OF ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture as a method of treatment of mans' illnesses is know to have its origin amongst the ancient Chinese possibly as long ago as 4,500 years - before recorded history. Early evidence of this development of acupuncture consists of diagrams of human and animal bodies with acupuncture points identified and ancient implements used in its application.

The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine is often cited as the definitive history of acupuncture but was probably a compilation of observations and documents over centuries. It is thought to have been written between 300 - 400 BC. Primitive forms of acupuncture started when people began using small sharp stones to pierce or press the skin. Bone needles replaced this and when metals were discovered, gold and silver were used.

Many myths have survived to partly explain some of the observations as the secrets of acupuncture have been slowly unravelled.Thousands of years of observing the cause and effect of using and refining these techniques of stimulating specific areas of the body to give therapeutic affect have survived into the 20th century. The Chinese have continued to embrace acupuncture as a major plank to their public health program such as witnessed with the training of Bare Foot Doctors to provide low cost acceptable medical care to the millions of Chinese in rural China.

With the opening up of China to the western world the "art of acupuncture" has been subjected to intense western scientific scrutiny. Research demonstrated that acupuncture relieved pain in rats and rabbits, thus dispelling any contention that acupuncture was purely a placebo effect on humans.

Western doctors have been studying the ancient art now for 30 years, integrating it into western medical culture as have the Chinese been accepting western method into theirs. Dramatic demonstrations of anaesthesia under acupuncture to perform complicated major surgery provides the most convincing proof of its efficacy. The major benefits of acupuncture though are good health maintenance and providing relief for painful conditions.

Such a large impact has this "discovery" of a natural ancient healing art had on the western world with its scientific validation that it is now practiced along side of traditional western medicine in most western countries. It is also included as part of the undergraduate training at many western medical schools.

Acupuncture's popularity can be seen as part of the emerging resistance to the western medical model which involves invasive procedures and the taking of drugs which often have harmful side effects. Acupuncture has virtually no side effects and is proven to help with many conditions which are often resistant to conventional forms of therapy.

ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE

Traditional Chinese acupuncture relies on the use of fine needles being inserted into specific points and then varying amounts of manual stimulation being exerted to give a desired effect, ie rotating needle slowly or more quickly, applying heat to the needle by way of burning a herb called moxa or applying leverage to the needle. Other methods of stimulation may include pressure (acupressure) or applying cold or friction from rubbing the area - both much less precise methods.

The success of acupuncture therefore depends on the skill of the practitioner in locating the points accurately and then being able to stimulate them effectively.

Enter electro-acupuncture and laser. With these two western enhancements, the precise amount of energy can be applied, whereas to twist a needle manually to achieve a frequency of say 5 cycles/second (5Hz) is going to rely on the skill of the practitioner. Dialling up the frequency and amplitude on an electrical stimulator or laser unit eliminates this error.

Electrical stimulation can be applied by attaching electrodes to traditional needles after they have been inserted into the skin. Alternatively, it can be delivered transcutaneously (across the skin) such as with an electronic point stimulator. Some units also have a point finding function which works by measuring the electrical resistance of the skin.

Acupuncture points coincide with areas of lowest resistance and have in fact been shown by microscopic examination to be areas of concentrated nerve endings with a thinner layer of overlying skin than surrounding non-point areas. The point finder takes the guess work out of locating the 365 known acupuncture points.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Does this product have TGA listing?
A: Yes the Pro 900 has TGA listing. The TGA/ARTG listing number is 22075 and has CE mark. The TENS PRO 900 has FDA approval for sales in the USA and has CE mark.

Q: How long does the battery last?
A: The battery will last from 10 days to many months depending upon how often the unit is used.

Q: Can a rechargeable battery be used?
A: It is not advisable to use a rechargeable battery. As the charge in the battery is deleted the output of the unit will change rendering treatment less effective.

Q: Can I over treat myself?
A: If points are treated too frequently or for a longer period of time than is recommended a resistance may be built up - no harm will be done but the desired relief may not be obtained. Even if the unit is used on the incorrect setting no harm will be done.

Q: How effective is this unit compared to acupuncture?
A: Treatment using the Acuhealth Pro 900 or TENS Pro 900, because it can be performed on a more regular basis is as good if not better than traditional acupuncture.

Q: Should points on both sides of the body be treated when the diagrams show only one side?
A: Yes! Always treat the corresponding point.

Q: On which setting, for ear points, should the unit be set?
A: The same as the conditions covered in the major sections of the book.

Q: Is it safe to use on children?
A: Yes. If you have any doubts please consult your practitioner (doctor, physiotherapist, chiropractor.)

Q: Is the unit reliable?
A: Yes but if a malfunction or breakdown occurs, or you have a warranty claim please contact us.

Q: Is there similar products on the market?
A: There are similar products on the market but not with the same capabilities. Unfortunately, some people are attracted to the lesser priced Acupuncture point stimulators which have low prices. It is wise to examine what you are getting for your money.

Q: What results can I expect?
A: It depends on the condition you wish to treat. Relief from chronic, long term conditions will take longer than acute, short-term conditions. Assess the condition you are treating, be consistent with your treatments and be patient.
