The F850 was the first of the NextG handsets that was released for Telstra's replacement for their CDMA network, the NextG 3G network. The F850 was a flip style phone and had all the standard features of the time for then modern handsets. The ZTE used a non standard charging/data connection port as at the time there was no standard charger connection.
The F850 was available in black only, the F851 being the same device but in white only. These were an inexpensive way to connect to Telstra's then new NextG network. This was a tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz) and WCDMA 850MHz phone. The handset had an inbuilt 1.3 megapixel camera that could be pointed towards the user for video calls (which was at the time a much touted NextG network feature) or could be scrolled around to face the rear of the phone for normal photo taking. The phone supported MP3 playback as well as polyphonic ringtones.
As these handsets were a replacement for the CDMA network there was a range of car kits and external antenna options for these devices.
