Perfectly purse or pocket sized, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is built for those of us that love the power of a traditional smartphone but find the huge size of most of them on the market annoying and cumbersome. Taking aim at women and younger users, the Z5 Compact is a great choice for those who want a smaller fit but without taking away any features.
Released in October, 2015, alongside the Sony Xperia Z5 and the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, this smaller smartphone still impresses. Currently (as of May, 2016) priced at AU$849, the smartphone is slightly less expensive than its Z5 sibling.
How does it stack up to the Z5?
The Compact phone features the exact same camera (at 23MP, fast autofocus, 4K video, and 24mm wide angle lens) as the Z5. This extends to the 5MP front facing camera too. It's also running the same Snapdragon 810 octo-core processor for powerful performance. The internal memory, at 32GB, and MicroSD slot capability (up to 200GB extendable memory) are also the same.
The phone has the same IP65 and IP86 dustproofing and waterproofing capabilities of the Z5, which are a mainstay of the Xperia range, and also perfect for those who are just that bit clumsy or forgetful, or exposed to the elements!
The side-mounted fingerprint sensor makes it easy to unlock your phone without taking up prime real estate on the screen, too.
The battery life of both models should stretch out to around 2 days too, with a “standard” amount of usage.
It's smaller, it's lighter, and it also comes in coral!
The smartphone has a 4.6inch display as opposed to the Z5’s 5.3inch display, which means it's still HD, but not Full HD. It's the perfect size for smaller hands, and to tuck into smaller places. This means the actual device measures in at 127mm x 65mm x 8.9mm.
Due to its smaller size, Sony have managed to shave off the weight too, so it comes in at just 138g.
As for the colour range? You've got black, white, gold, and coral to choose from (but not the green of the Z5), so it's perfect for those that are after a pink look phone.
The X5 Compact really doesn't skimp on much that isn't in the Z5, except for the size, which makes it a great choice for those that want a powerful phone with a smaller size. Many of the smaller sized smartphones on the market these days are 'budget' smartphones with less powerful processors, terrible camera, poor image quality, etc. This is why the Z5 Compact is such a good alternative.
What accessories go with the Sony X5 Compact?
Every smartphone needs the right range of accessories to keep it protected, keep it charged, and keep you on the go! Here are some of the most essential items that you can consider to pick up for your Sony Xperia Z5 Compact.
Protective Cases And Covers
Dropping your phone and smashing your screen, or making your phone inoperable, is something most of us have had to experience at least once. Keep your Z5 Compact safe with either a durable PU leather case or a plastic case. Add in a protective screen guard to ensure your screen stands up to any bumps and falls.
Chargers
While all phones come with one charger as standard, it's never enough! Grab another AC mains charger, an emergency charger, or a powerbank to make sure you don't run out of batteries any time soon.
Car accessories
Got a car? You definitely need a car cradle - both for charging and if you need to pull up Google Maps for some directions! You can also pick up an antenna to extend your cellular range if you are driving out of the city or in dark spots, a Bluetooth car kit for your car, or a car charger for extra charge.
Hands Free
A Bluetooth headset makes sense for those that like to chat hands free. Perfect for when you are out walking the dog, shopping until you drop, or on your way to work.
Extra Memory
Let's be honest - 32GB of memory probably won't be enough. Some apps are ridiculously huge memory hogs, after all. Picking up a large MicroSD card to extend your memory is a really good idea, even if it's not at the same time you purchase your phone. You might even choose to have a few cards in rotation, depending on whether you like to store movies or other large files on your phone.
There's a lot to like about the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact - especially for those people who have smaller hands or just find the regular range of smartphones too cumbersome. It's nice to know that you don't have to sacrifice functionality to get a great smartphone at the dimensions you want.
