E188 USB Optus Prepaid Mobile Broadband Starter Kit

The E188 Starter Kit comes with the Optus E188 3G HSPA modem to connect your PC or MAC to the internet via the Optus Open network that covers 97% of the Australian population. The Optus E188 personal USB modem, being a plug and play device, installs quickly into your computer, letting you browse, stream, play games online, or catch up on social media in a matter of minutes.

The E188 has a Micro SD card slot, so you can turn the modem into a USB storage device supporting a Micro SD memory card up to 16GB Micro SD not included.

The E188 Starter Kit comes with up to 1GB data that is valid for 15 days and has unlimited access to Facebook, Twitter and MySpace within Australia

The plug and play software gets you quick installation of the Optus Connection Manager. This connection manager also has an integrated SMS client so you can send and receive SMS on your PC or MAC. The device is compatible withWindows XP SP2/3, Windows Vista SP1/2, Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7 with latest upgrades.

Optus E188 Discontinuation

The Optus E188 Mobile Broadband USB Modem has been discontinued and is no longer operational on the Optus network. The device became obsolete when the Optus 3G network was fully shut down on October 28, 2024. Since the E188 is a legacy USB dongle that depends entirely on 3G frequencies for data transmission, it cannot connect to any modern network infrastructure.

Two factors explain why the E188 stopped working:

• 3G Network Retirement: Optus, Telstra and Vodafone have completely decommissioned their 3G networks across Australia. The radio frequencies previously used for 3G have been repurposed to support faster, higher-capacity 4G and 5G services.
• Hardware Limitations: The E188 lacks the necessary internal hardware and modem configurations to connect to 4G or 5G bands. Its design is strictly limited to obsolete 3G technology, making it incompatible with current network standards. View antennas for newer 4G and 5G modems
