Google Pixel 4 And Pixel 4XL Announced

Google Pixel 4 And Pixel 4XL

It’s 2019 and leaks are given but nothing quite like the Google Pixel 4 which is probably the most leaked phone in the history of leaks.

Despite all the controversies surrounding its design, features and hardware, Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL seems set to please its fans with a fresh look and squarish back camera model. In terms of updates the new Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4XL has a lot worth talking about.

Design

In terms of design, this new Pixel iteration seems rather disappointing at first because it does not seem to be a unique experience for its users. It has no water drop notch or side notch, in fact it has no notch, only a thick padding. But, don’t get disappointed because this padding is where Google has equipped Pixel 4 with all the great sensors.

Apart from notch, gone is that iconic dual tone look that was a little bit of gloss and mostly matte.

The new Pixel 4 comes in three distinct colours including the typical white, black and this year’s new to which Google is officially calling – Oh So Orange!

Regardless of what colour option you choose for yourself, all three variants sport a black frame around in the back of the Pixel which gives it a pretty minimalistic look.

Security

Were you expecting a fingerprint scanner on the screen? You might well be very disappointed because the new variant does not have a physical fingerprint scanner. Instead of a fingerprint scanner, Google equipped Pixel 4 with a sophisticated and “super-fast” face unlocking system. This new face unlocking system is actually so fast that Google has included an option in the settings to slow down its responsiveness to give Pixel 4 users a chance to get a look at their lock screen.

Display

Smartphone displays with fast refresh rate aren’t becoming a thing. Standard is 60 Hz but then we saw gaming phones that pushes the boundaries all the way to 120 Hz. And then this year OnePlus came in the market making 90 Hz a standard refresh rate across its lineup. Thankfully, Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL is also equipped with a 90 Hz display. But do note that the refresh rate is dynamic and will change automatically depending on users interactivity with the device.

Hardware

RAM And Internal Storage

Finally, it seems that Google now understands that 4 GB RAM is not sufficient for a premium line-up smartphone and so they decided to release the base model of Pixel 4 with 6 GB RAM while the high-end model with up to 8 GB RAM.

As for the storage, users can choose between 64 GB or 128 GB variant which is available for both Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL.

Camera Module

Of course, this is a Pixel phone known for having some of the best cameras on a smartphone in the bit. So, expect this phone to be no exception.

This year Google is going for single camera even when its competitors went for two, three and even four; Pixel 4 gets two main cameras on its sensor. The main camera has 12-megaPixel sensor while the second is a 16-megaPixel telephoto lens.

Unfortunately, this new Pixel lineup isn’t featuring any ultra-wide-angle lens and Google defended their decision saying, “while wide angle can be fun, we think telephoto is more important.”

The Night Sight feature looks like a star feature, with astrophotography,  Google states that this can capture stars and can even photograph the Milky Way on a clear night. This will surely have Pixel owners out at night snapping pics of the stars.

Motion Sense

One of the most exciting features of the new pixel range is the radar. Placed at the top of the screen, the integrated radar (initially called the Project Soli) creates a kind of field around the device that allows it to detect any type of movement within the field. Radar operates in the 60 GHz band of the spectrum and helps the pixel predict what you want to do.

Motion sense, which can be controlled via the settings, can be used to perform some basic actions, including silence interruptions, skipping songs, and ambient display.

The technology is quite new, and Google is exploring ways to leverage its true potential in its devices.

Both the Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL are available for pre-order from the 16th October 2019 and the launch is on October 24 2019.
