The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S is an update of the Xperia Arc and has a faster processor, more storage, and a 3D camera borrowed from Sony’s Cybershot cameras.

The 8 megapixel camera is good in still and 720p shooting modes. The camera is also 3D capable, having an inbuilt panoramic 3D camera app.

The Arc S gives snappy performance with the operating system being intuitive and easy to use. The screen is 4.2 inches, has a 480 x 854 resolution and is a capacitive touchscreen LCD. The screen is backlit by LED and uses by Sony Ericsson’s Bravia video engine for vibrant, detailed colour reproduction.

The CPU is a faster version of the chip found in the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo. With 1.4GHz of processing power and 512MB of RAM, the Arc S handles demanding mobile applications without stuttering, whether you are loading a 3D racing simulator, playing an online game, or multitasking across heavy web pages. The Arc S runs Android’s 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system and also utilises Sony’s Timescape overlay.

Connectivity wise the Arc S has the following features: GPS, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP.

What phone charger does the Xperia Arc S use? Your Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S uses the very common Micro-USB connector (USB 2.0 Micro-B) for both charging and syncing data. The wall charger that came in the box pushes out 5V at 850mA to 1000mA (1A) through a detachable USB-A to Micro-USB cable. That means you can also easily charge it from any standard USB wall adapter or even your computer’s USB port, as long as the output is 5V.

When Was It Discontinued?

There was never a big official announcement about the Xperia Arc S being discontinued in Australia. It first launched as a Telstra exclusive on November 15, 2011 and then naturally faded from carrier and retailer shelves during late 2012, once newer models like the Sony Xperia S took over.
