HTC Velocity 4G
The HTC Velocity is Australia’s first 4G smartphone and has a 4.5 inch touch screen, a 1.5 GHz dual core processor for fast multi-tasking, an 8 megapixel camera and utilizes Google’s Android operating system.
The HTC Velocity, when in 4G coverage areas, will deliver typical download speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 40Mbps. This is up to five times faster than other fast 3G handsets. Even when in 3G coverage this handset is up to 3 times as quick as other current mobile phones.
The phone runs on Telstra’s 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) network on the 1800MHz spectrum, and When not inside 4G coverage areas the Velocity 4G switches onto Telstra’s 3G network.
Talk time is estimated to be 310 minutes on 3G, and 248 hours on standby for 3G.

The HTC Velocity 4G will be available for $0 upfront on Telstra’s $79 Freedom Connect Plan after using the MRO Bonus that comes with the 79 Freedom Connect plan. This plan also includes $800 worth of included calls and MMS, unlimited SMS to Australian mobiles and 2GB of data all to standard Australian numbers (excludes use overseas) each month. The minimum cost over 24 months is $1,896.
HTC Velocity 4G Charger
If you still have an HTC Velocity 4G kicking around, you might be wondering what kind of charger it takes. The good news is that it uses a very common connection: a standard micro-USB 2.0 port. That means you can charge it and sync data with most cables you likely already own.

- Bonus Feature: The micro-USB port also supports MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link). This means you can use a special MHL-to-HDMI adapter to output video from your phone to a TV or monitor, all through the same port you use for charging.
So, if you’re looking for a replacement phone charger, a micro-USB cable and a standard 5V/1A USB-A wall adapter will do the job. For MHL video output, you’ll need a dedicated MHL adapter, but for everyday charging, you’re set with a standard cable.
The HTC Velocity 4G’s Place in History (and Its Retirement)
The HTC Velocity 4G was a trailblazer of its time. It launched on Telstra in Australia on January 24, 2012 and went down in history as the country’s first 4G smartphone. That was a pretty big deal back then!
Like many early 4G phones, it didn’t stay on shelves for long. Telstra and HTC rarely issued a formal “end-of-life” announcement, but the phone was quickly pushed aside by newer, faster flagships, most notably the HTC One XL, which arrived just a few months later in mid-2012. By the end of that same year, the Velocity 4G was fully phased out and retired from Telstra’s lineup.
So, while you won’t find official support for the device anymore, the good news is its charger and cable remain universally compatible, so keeping it running is easy.
