Motorola Xoom 2

The Motorola Xoom 2 has been unleashed! The Xoom, successor to the popular Motorola Xoom 2 is a thin 10.1 inch touchscreen tablet that features a scratch and splash resistant coating with an aluminium housing. The Xoom 2 weighs approx 600 grams and is just a whisker under 9 millimetres thin. Motorola have endowed the Xoom 2 with a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and Android 3.2. The 10.1 inch widescreen is HD capable and gives bright and vivid colours.

Improvements over the Xoom include MotoCast, a free app from Motorola which allows you to access music, videos and photos from your home PC direct to your Xoom 2. The Xoom 20 has a high capacity battery that provides hours of power.

With MotoCast you can throw away your cables and save your storage space for your apps. Using MotoCast you can access your pc remotely and stream your music, pics, doc and movies to your Xoom 2

The Xoom 2 is available from Telstra starting from $49 per month with 1 GB of data. $59 per month gets you the Xoom 2 and 4GB of data, $69 per month will get the your Motorola Xoom 2 and 8gb of data. And $99 a month gets you the Motorola Xoom 2 and 15 GB of data. All of the above plans are 24 month plans.

Charging Port and Compatibility

The Xoom 2 uses a standard Micro-USB port for both charging and data syncing. This marks a departure from the original Motorola Xoom, which relied on a proprietary 12V charger. The Micro-USB port allows the Xoom 2 to work with widely available cables and adapters, simplifying replacements and car charging. Newer USB-C chargers are not compatible

A standard Micro USB charger will charge the device, but using a higher-amperage adapter (1.5A–2A) reduces charging time. The tablet does not support the 12V input used by the original Xoom, so attempting to use that proprietary charger will not work.

Discontinuation Timeline

The Motorola Xoom 2 launched in Australia exclusively through Telstra in February 2012, priced at $720. Neither Motorola nor Telstra issued an official end-of-life date. The tablet was quietly removed from major carrier and retail inventories later that same year. This phase-out coincided with the release of newer competitors, notably the iPad 3, which shifted market demand away from the Xoom 2.
