Telstra business customers can now have the choice of a 4G WiFi device, the Telstra 4G WiFi W706S. This device, Australia’s first of this tye, is a personal WiFI hotspot that accesses internet at 4G speeds.

The device is battery powered and can be charged from a mains power or via a USB port.

The Telstra Mobile Wi-Fi modem can share Telstra 4G LTE network connection with up to five devices simultaneously. You can have the performance benefits of 4G mobile broadband with you existing Wi-Fi enabled devices.

The Telstra Mobile Wi-Fi 4G has a slender black design and a large LED display which shows information like as Wi-Fi name and password, signal strength, number of devices connected and battery level at a glance. The Telstra 4G WiFi  supports Wi-Fi N.

The Telstra 4G WiFi has a web-based portal to access network security and Wi-Fi range settings from your internet browser. The W760S gives an alert that will let you know when devices connect and disconnect the W760S’ Wi-Fi network.

When You’re using the Telstra Mobile Wi-Fi 4G in 4G areas you can access typical download speeds of 2Mbps to 40Mbps with upload speeds being 1Mbps to 10Mbps.

Outside of 4G coverage areas the Mobile Wi-Fi 4G utilises HSPA+ Dual Channel technology to  3G.  You can expect download speeds ranging of 1.1Mbps-20Mbps in all capital CBDs and much of the associated metropolitan areas and many regional locations. Outside of these areas the device transitions to Telstra’s fastest available 3G speeds.

• Patch Leads / Cradles: Use a dedicated Telstra 4G WiFi W760S External Antenna Patch Lead Adaptor or a Patch Lead Cradle Antenna Connector to interface your device with an outside antenna.
• Magnetic/Whip Antennas: Portable 5dBi to 7dBi magnetic base or panel-mount antennas work well for moderate signal improvements in vehicles or near windows.
• High-Gain Building Mount / Yagi Antennas: Outdoor directional dipole or log-periodic array kits are best for rural or fringe reception areas with weak line-of-sight cell coverage.

Need a Charger for Your Telstra 4G WiFi Modem (Netgear W760S)?

Don’t worry, the charger situation is simple. This modem uses a standard micro-USB port. You can charge it with any 5V USB wall adapter, or even plug it into a computer’s USB port using a micro-USB cable (newer USB-C cables are not compatible). Is the Telstra 4G WiFi Modem (Netgear W760S) Still Made?

Good question, but no, the Sierra Wireless AirCard 760S (sold by Telstra as the Telstra / BigPond Mobile Wi-Fi 4G) was first released in Australia on March 20, 2012. While Telstra never announced a single official “discontinued” date, it was gradually phased out of retail stores from around late 2013 to 2014. Newer models, like the Netgear AirCard 782S, took its place with faster LTE-Advanced support. So if you’re looking to buy one new, you won’t find it, but second-hand units are still out there if you need a spare.
