Windows Phone 7 Launch

Microsoft has officially unveiled Windows Phone 7 in a New York launch event.

Microsoft has built a “different kind of phone” in Windows Phone 7, according to Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer. “Microsoft and its partners are delivering a different kind of mobile phone and experience — one that makes everyday tasks faster by getting more done in fewer steps and providing timely information in a glance-and-go format,” he said.

The main difference with Windows Phone 7 and other mobile operating platforms is in the user interface for Windows Phone 7. Windows Phone 7 helps people easily find information, services and applications such as Xbox LIVE1, Office Mobile2, Windows Live, Bing and more.

Windows Phone 7 users will be able to experience the following features and more:

  • A highly customisable home screen using Live Tiles
  • Windows Phone hubs in the user interface such as Office, People, Pictures, Music, Games
  • Extensive maps and local information using Bing
  • Microsoft Office integration
  • Built-in OneNote for mobile note-taking
  • SharePoint integration for corporate documents
  • Automatic web uploads of photos taken using the phone
  • The ability of the integrated photo album to show the photos you’ve taken on your phone and photos from your PC and Facebook account
  • Integration with Zune for music
  • Xbox Live for gaming

Several Australia mobile carriers have announced Windows 7 handsets. Telstra has announced it will be providing the following Windows Phone 7 handsets, the HTC 7 Mozart and the LG Optimus 7Q while Vodafone have announced the  HTC 7 Trophy and Optus will have the Samsung Omnia 7 and the LG Optimus 7.

I got my own some weeks ago. It’s a refurb, but we can’t tell. It’s terrific, I’m satisfied having it.
