HTC Wildfire S

The HTC Wildfire S is the successor to the HTC Wildfire and is a compact smartphone available exclusively on the Telstra network in Australia. The Wildfire S sports an extremely compact design, measuring just 101.3 x 59.4 x 12.3mm and weighs in at just 105 grams. This handset is noticeably smaller than most other smartphones and this is apparent when the Wildfire S is in your hand.

The HTC Wildfire S has a 600MHz CPU teamed with 512MB of RAM with the handset’s internal memory just 512MB.  This can be expanded by the use of a MicroSD card.

The Wildfire S’ 3.2 inch capacitive touch screen proves adequate and supports a 320 x 480 resolution. Despite the modest screen size, the default browser comfortably handles mobile-optimized web interfaces, from real-time stock tickers to various gaming sites. Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 is the OS for the Wildfire S and this has been enhanced by HTC with the inclusion of HTC Sense. HTC Sense’s caller ID feature not only displays the caller’s name and phone number it also displays other information like the caller’s Facebook status or birthday.

The Wildfire S has a 5 megapixel camera, bluetooth, Wifi, 3G, FM radio and ther device can also be used as a MP3 player and a WiFi hotspot.

Finding the Right Charger for Your HTC Wildfire S

Good news: you don’t need to hunt down a rare, expensive original charger for your Wildfire S. It uses a very common standard, so any basic charger you have lying around will probably work perfectly.

What Plug Does It Use?

The Wildfire S charges through a Micro-USB port (the smaller, slightly trapezoid-shaped connector that was everywhere before USB-C chargers). This means any standard USB-A to Micro-USB cable will fit.

What Power Do You Need?

Any standard 5-volt USB wall adapter will do the job. The phone was designed for 5 Volts / 1 Amp, but it’s also fine with a lower 0.5A output from a computer port. Just avoid using any fast-charging USB-C adapters, they won’t fit the cable, and the phone isn’t designed for that technology.

Other Charging Options

• Computer USB ports: You can charge the phone by plugging it into your laptop or desktop.
• Portable power banks: Any power bank with a USB-A output will work.
• No wireless charging:The Wildfire S doesn’t support wireless charging, so you’ll need a physical cable.

A Quick Note on Discontinuation

The Wildfire S was released in Australia in July 2011 through Telstra. By 2012 and 2013, HTC quietly phased it out as newer models like the Desire C took over. There was never an official “end date” announced, but you won’t find it in new stock anymore.
