Released back in October of 2015, the phone retails at (as of May, 2016) AU$999 in Australia, and comes in black, white, gold, and green versions.
For those after the alternative to the all powerful Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy devices that seem to take up the lion's share of the mobile market, the Sony Xperia Z series can be akin to a breath of fresh air. Although the Xperia range of smartphones are everything that you feel that you need in a mobile phone, they just sort of seem different. And that's a good thing!
The Xperia series was brought out originally to provide epic displays for users to watch media and play games on, and the Xperia Z5 doesn't deviate from this focus. The screen is the same size as its Z4 predecessor (5.5 inches), with a 1080x1920 resolution and 428 pixels per inch. It's big, and the screen is beefy, so that you can run all your media to your heart's content.
The Xperia Z5 Camera
In what is obviously a run at the crown for the best camera, Sony have introduced ultra-fast autofocus, for on the go photography, a 23MP camera that boasts 5 x more powerful zoom than before, that also works extremely well across a range of different lighting conditions. It also features a super wide lens so that you can fit more of your surroundings into your pictures.
In fact, the camera on this baby generally measures up to the stiff competition getting about at the moment, including the iPhone.
The phone comes with a design upgrade for this cycle, with a metal frame and a frosted glass back, for that more 'premium' feel. In the large style rectangular block we've come to know since its initial cycle, Sony stick with the same overall shape.
Other bits and pieces
Fingerprint Scanner
Picking up the now popular fingerprint scanner for user recognition makes login to your smartphone a breeze. Sony have placed this on the side of the phone, however, so that it's less intrusive on screen space as opposed to its competitors.
Battery Life
Sony spruiks a greater battery life with the Z5 - supposedly up to 2 days of juice with average mobile use in the one charge. Combined with the ability to fully charge in just 45 minutes this makes for less time fiddling with cords and worrying about running out of battery.
Waterproof
The Xperia range were the trailblazers when it came to waterproofing phones. Who know that so many people split their drinks on their devices, went swimming with them, got caught in the rain, or even dropped them in the loo? Um, all users everywhere, that's who. The Xperia Z5 comes with an IP68 rating which means it's waterproof (as well as dustproof too) but won't stand being submerged in water for too long - and all ports and covers need to be closed before you do so.
PS4 Remote Play
For those with Playstation fever, the Xperia Z5 is it. With the ability to play PS4 games on your smartphone (with a controller attachment) from anywhere in your house, you can be gaming anywhere and anytime you please.
Storage
The phone comes standard with 32GB of memory (and 3GB RAM), with a microSD slot that can take cards of up to 200GB for expandable memory.
The Chipset
Under the hood is the Snapdragon 810, a mainstay of the smartphone set. This is combined with two quad-core CPUs, making it, in effect, an octo-core system.
Sony Xperia Z5 accessories
There is a whole wealth of accessories you can choose to complement your Sony Xperia Z5 with. These include:
PU Leather Case And Other Cases
To protect your phone from getting bashed about. You might also like to combine your Sony Xperia Z5 case with a screen guard (preferably made from tempered glass for maximum effect) to prevent any nasty scratches and scrapes.
Chargers
Although Sony boast about their battery life for the Z5, you don't want to be caught out. You can choose to pick up an extra AC mains charger, an in car charger, a portable powerbank, an emergency charger, an ultra fast charger, or a car cradle that also charges.
Bluetooth Headset
Choose from a traditional Bluetooth headset, or a Bluetooth car kit for hands free operation of your phone.
You can also pick up other items like antennas for extending your phone’s signal range, data cables, and Micro SD cards of all different memory sizes.
The Sony Xperia Z5 isn't mind blowing by any stretch of the imagination - not much is in the smartphone market these days, we're sad to admit! - however it's a solid phone that pleases both fans of the Xperia series as well as newcomers to the brand as well.
